The Base Coat

This product is much less liquid than the previous one. The base coat creates a protective layer to prevent the colored pigments of polish or gel from damaging your nail. It is therefore a mandatory step for a semi-permanent manicure or artificial nails. It can come in a pot or a bottle depending on your preferred application method.

The base coat must be cured under a UV or LED lamp depending on the active ingredients of the base.

Complementary or Substitutable?

Primer is not a mandatory step in a manicure; it's a product that promotes better adhesion. This is unlike the base coat, which is mandatory in the process of artificial gel nails or semi-permanent polish.

Furthermore, excessive use of primer (especially acid-based) can be harmful to the nail because its complex aims to lift the miniature scales of the nail to allow the base to adhere better.
