What is it used for?

It's the essential element for any successful hair coloring! Indeed, after carefully choosing the desired color, the developer will play a crucial role in achieving the desired hair color. This chemical product allows color pigments to penetrate the hair cuticle thanks to the reaction it generates.

Its hydrogen peroxide formula lightens hair thanks to its bleaching agents, and its creamy texture brings softness and care to the hair. Developer is used for various techniques, including permanent hair colors, tone-on-tone colors, as well as bleaching and stripping. Combined with the coloring cream, they form a perfectly homogeneous mixture to optimally fix the color on the hair. You will find the proportion of hydrogen peroxide on the developer's packaging, expressed either in Volume or Percentage.

How to choose the right volume?

Developers have several types of volumes, generally from 10 to 40, corresponding to the percentage of hydrogen peroxide present. Here are the equivalences of each volume and their effect on the hair:

- 10 Volume contains 3% hydrogen peroxide, it is ideal for tone-on-tone coloring or for covering white hair, for example

- 20 Volume contains 6% hydrogen peroxide, it lightens hair by one to two shades on natural bases

- 30 Volume contains 9% hydrogen peroxide, hair is lightened by three to four shades

- 40 Volume contains 12% hydrogen peroxide for a "super lightening" action of four to six shades

It is therefore necessary to carefully choose the desired degree of lightening beforehand in order to select the correct developer volume.

How to choose the right dosage?

The developer and coloring cream must be mixed in a NON-metallic bowl, such as plastic or glass. If you want to know how much developer to mix for a tube of color, follow this principle: for a 50ml tube of colorant, use 50ml of developer. You will also need to consider the nature of the hair: colored or natural. Furthermore, store your developer away from light and heat.
