What is hair coloring?
Hair coloring is a rather subtle technical process aimed at dyeing hair. The terminology and application methods are quite specific and require a minimum of research before considering such a change in appearance.
Because even if some hair dyes are called "temporary", coloring your hair at home or at a hairdresser's is not a trivial act.
There are 3 types of hair dyes:
- ephemeral hair dye
- temporary / semi-permanent hair dye
- permanent hair dye
Ephemeral hair dye
Coloring your hair ephemerally is ideal if it's for a special event (birthday, Halloween, wedding...) or a sudden whim! It's a hair dye that doesn't commit for the long term, but only for 5 to 10 shampoos. Why? Because the color is only deposited on the surface of the hair. Permanent hair dye
This process aims to irreversibly color the natural pigment of the hair. This means that it is a dye that will never fade; only the roots will leave a trace of your natural color during regrowth (to be covered every 2-3 months). It requires a chemical product (the oxidant) that opens the hair cuticles to allow the color to penetrate and thus modify the pigment. This is called oxidation.
