Why use nail primer?

Do you want to do your own gel polish manicure or gel application at home? To do this, you need to arm yourself with professional products to achieve a result that meets your expectations! Gel polishes, UV or LED gel, nail files - you have all of these, but do you know about primer?

What is it?

Primer is a product specifically for gel polish manicures, whether with polish or gel. It's a product to be used with great caution due to its acid-containing formulation which can burn if applied to the skin.

Nail primer helps to improve the adhesion of products to your nails to extend the wear of your gel polish manicure.

Today, there is an alternative to the acid-based primer formulation. Bonder is a similar product that does not contain acid but also improves the longevity of your gel polish manicures.

How to apply nail primer?

The application of this product is very delicate and is done before applying your gel polish manicure. It is therefore essential to follow the protocol to the letter.

  1. On clean, makeup-free nails, push back your cuticles using a cuticle pusher.
  2. Prepare your nail with a white block.
  3. Apply the primer in a thin layer, avoiding the skin and cuticles.
  4. Allow to air dry.

If you have sensitive nails, opt for bonder, which will be less aggressive thanks to its acid-free formulation.

What is the difference between primer and base coat?

UV or LED base coat protects the nail from the pigments in gel polish. It is therefore essential for a gel polish application; you cannot replace this step with the application of a primer, as these are two completely different products.

If you want to save time and no longer have to apply a base coat before applying polish, you can opt for 3-in-1 gel polishes which relieve you of the base coat and top coat application steps.

Applying a base coat is therefore mandatory for a gel polish manicure, whereas primer is optional and allows you to improve the adhesion of the base coat to your nail to enhance the wear of your manicure.
