The benefits of dry body brushing

There are beauty routines that we are not used to; body brushing is one of them. Though seemingly innocuous, dry body brushing is far more beneficial for the skin than we might think!

______________

After brushing our teeth and hair, it's time for body brushing to enter our beauty routine! A natural method that detoxifies the skin and improves blood circulation, we take a look at this gesture that promotes well-being and health.

What is dry brushing?

Just like body scrubbing originating from the Middle East, dry body brushing is also an ancient method, but this time from Asia. The principle is simple: you brush your bare skin with a specific brush.

One might mistakenly think that the skin needs to be wet for this treatment, but don't make the mistake: the epidermis must be completely dry. Neither water nor cosmetic products should be used. A rather economical body care regimen!

General Knowledge Minute:

Did you know that skin alone accounts for 15% of our weight? It's the largest organ in the body. Consequently, it fulfills important functions, particularly one: eliminating toxins from the body. Every day, our skin eliminates half a kilo of acidic and fatty waste .

What are the benefits for our skin?

Brushing is useful for stimulation. The friction action stimulates blood and lymphatic circulation. This ultimately helps to drain toxins from the body through the different skin tissues. The result: a healthy body thanks to all its elimination systems working like clockwork!

Another notable benefit: through their exfoliating action, the brush bristles unclog the skin's pores and remove dead skin cells and various impurities. Cleansed, your skin immediately appears smoother and clearer. Goodbye blackheads, pimples, and ingrown hairs!

Regarding microcirculation, it also benefits. Brushing creates a warming effect that is beneficial for skin oxygenation. Indeed, friction induces blood flow that nourishes the tissues. This is how dead cells are renewed. Your skin breathes and thanks you!

Are you a big sports enthusiast, that is, a Sunday jogger? With dry brushing, you will no longer suffer from soreness ! And yes, this beauty gesture stimulates the lymphatic system which eliminates the lactic acid trapped in your muscles more quickly . 🏃‍♀️

Brushing also helps to fight cellulite ; the list of "pros" is still long, but just remember that it is a gesture that can only be beneficial for your body.

Precisely, which brush to choose?

And no, neither your nail brush nor your hairbrush will do the trick! You have no choice but to invest.

Don't worry, the body brush won't break the bank. At Gouiran Beauté, we offer a varnished wooden brush from the French brand Altesse at a low price.

When is brushing necessary and effective?

As it must be done dry, it is best to do it before showering. Morning or evening, 5 minutes are enough 1 to 2 times a week to maintain your skin.

If you are prone to water retention, have stretch marks , or are exposed to cellulite, body brushing is a good natural and detoxifying alternative.

However, if you have just waxed or shaved, this should be avoided.

Which movements to favor?

Generally, always start from the bottom of the body and work your way up: the sole of the foot, the tarsus, the ankles, the legs, the buttocks, the stomach, the chest, the back, the hands, the arms, the armpits, the shoulders, and finally the neck and nape.

Go gently, the goal is not to set a record but to have a relaxing moment. Proceed with light strokes, more or less firm depending on the area. Massage with circular movements except for the arms where you can brush in a straight line.

Of course, comfort through skin hydration is recommended after such care: apply a hydrating cream or milk to soothe any possible redness.
And for a brush that's always at its hygienic best, remember to clean it with water and black soap after each use.
