Le coin des pros

Humour, wordplay… When hairdressers love jokes (a little too much)

Humour, jeu de mots… Quand les coiffeurs aiment (un peu trop) les blagues

It's World Joke Day, so today the Mag' team is in a joking mood! And that's good, because when it comes to jokes, hair salons are a real source of inspiration!

______________

Has it ever happened to you to walk down the street, notice a hair salon storefront, read its name, and laugh about it?
It has to us! And often, we even think: "No way, they didn't really do that, did they?!"

But they did! When it comes to naming their salons, hairdressers are full of imagination. Between puns, wordplays, and jests, some establishments in France and other French-speaking countries know how to make themselves attractive.

A self-deprecating approach from hairdressers to charm their clients, which we appreciate. So much so that we are almost disappointed when a sign doesn't share its sense of humor with us.

If you've never had the chance to see and "enjoy" the most wacky salon names, we've put together a little sample for you this April 1st!

TOP 1 Jokes: The "Hair" Passion

Well, you don't need to be bilingual or have a TOEIC to understand the meaning. Literally "hair" in English, "hair" is one of the first vocabulary words we learn in middle school. A term that seems to inspire many hairdressers...

No doubt, here, they fulfill all your hair desires!
K pi l’hair, in Caestre (59)

No need for a passport to take a seat at this low-cost hairdresser.
Ryanhair, all over Luxembourg

For a very French haircut!
Volt’Hair Coiffure, in Cholet (49)

TOP 2: Competing with "Tif"

"Tif" is not just a nickname you use to call your friend Tiffany. It's also a colloquial word for hair! And hairdressers are fond of it! Almost all words ending with this syllable are used: créa-tif (creative), instinc-tif (instinctive), attrac-tif (attractive), évolu-tif (evolving)….

You want platinum blonde? So be it.
Ainsi Soit Tif, in Albi (81)

It's that or nothing!
Faudra Tif Hair, in Monaco (98)

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe.... 🎵
Tif & Tif & Colegram, in Paris (75)

TOP 3: Twisting Expressions

And off we go for a tour of France's most famous expressions revisited!

Guaranteed caffeine-free.
Pause Coiffée, in Cappelle-la-Grande (59)

A salon where the team is thirteen to listen! (play on words: treize à l'écoute, meaning "very attentive" from treize, the number 13, and très, meaning very)
Treize en Beauté, in Marseille (13)

But no, don't worry, you'll still have your say! (play on words: boucle-la, meaning "shut up" (informal), and boucler, meaning "to curl")
Boucle-la, in Dreux (28)

A name that implies more collaboration than the previous salon. 😅 (play on words: de mèche avec vous, meaning "in cahoots with you," and mèche, meaning "a lock of hair")
De Mèche Avec Vous, in Aubeterre-sur-Dronne (16)

Jokes aside, being imagina'tif (imaginative) and funny seems to be a recipe that works and is pleasin'hair (pleasing)! 😉
