Foundation primer is an essential product in any makeup routine, often underestimated but crucial for achieving a flawless finish. It prepares the skin by smoothing imperfections, evening out skin tone, and extending makeup wear.

Why use a foundation primer?

Foundation primers prepare your skin for makeup. After application, a thin protective barrier forms on your epidermis. This prevents your foundation from being absorbed and ensures an even finish all over your face. Blurring imperfections, foundation primers smooth skin texture, reduce pores, and keep your makeup in place all day long.

To each skin type, its own foundation primer!

First and foremost, you need to know your skin type and complexion to choose the right foundation primer. There is a difference between neutral and colored primers. Colorless primers mainly serve to brighten your dermis and smooth imperfections for daily comfort. Colored primers, on the other hand, have a much more corrective effect as they completely camouflage imperfections through a chromatic play of colors depending on your skin's pigmentation.

Is your skin oily with imperfections?

Between persistent pimples, blackheads, and visible shine on your T-zone, it's essential to use a mattifying and smoothing primer to rebalance and prevent foundation from suffocating your epidermis. This will limit sebum production and tighten pores. This will prevent a particularly unsightly shiny effect. Don't hesitate to use a green-colored primer to reduce redness.

Or rather dry and sensitive?

Creams with melting and creamy textures should be used. They are hydrating and will nourish your skin without irritating it. Also prone to redness and irritation due to its fragility and thinness, opt for the green tint to minimize them.

Does it look dull?

It's hard to feel good when you look exhausted. If this is your case, lean towards an illuminating primer. It will bring luminosity, radiance, and clarity to your face while making signs of fatigue disappear. For an even fresher effect, pink or blue tints are recommended. Yellow also aims to blur overly purplish dark circles.

How to apply your foundation primer?

Now that you have successfully identified your skin type, let's move on to applying this essential product.

  1. First, apply your usual moisturizer.
  2. Take your chosen foundation primer, selected according to your needs. Use your finger, but if possible, an adapted brush or a beauty blender to apply it all over your face.
  3. Start by applying it to your nose and move your brush (finger or beauty blender) outwards from your face.
  4. Don't hesitate to insist on the T-zone, prone to imperfections, to camouflage them, and on dark circles to brighten your complexion.
