Face shaving for women

Le rasage du visage chez les femmes
For several years now, more and more women have been trying out face shaving. Why do they shave their faces? Is face shaving a good idea for women? Ultimately, should you also try this trend? All these answers will be found in this article.

______________

It all started 10 years ago when Michelle Money revealed her aversion to hair and her need to remove it. Very quickly, this idea was adopted as a beauty secret by some, and a tutorial was posted online a year later. Over the years, well-known beauty YouTubers with millions of followers, like Huda Beauty (a Dubai-based YouTuber), began releasing videos on shaving the peach fuzz that naturally covers the face. A fuzz that everyone has and that is not there by chance.

Since then, many bloggers and other influencers have embraced the practice, called dermaplaning, to adopt and showcase it to their communities, or, in rarer cases, criticize the practice.

Why do these women decide to shave their faces?

While it's a trend, that doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad thing, of course. However, why did we start shaving our faces? After all, 10 years ago, it was absolutely not done in France.

Beyond the question of trend – or fashion – these women have genuine reasons for adopting face shaving. In the early 21st century, where hair removal is often common among young people, we find many explanations for resorting to this effort of war.

The hatred of hair

While a full head of hair blowing in the wind can be a weapon of mass seduction, and a loved one's lock of hair a catalyst for memories and veneration, hair itself has a completely different story. Some people are now repulsed by hair, finding it dirty and useless. They seek to get rid of it by all means. While today we might think this is just a passing fad, it's not that simple.

In Christian societies, hair was often respected for various reasons. Virtuous, it allowed to camouflage intimate parts. On the other hand, in Islamic societies, we know that hair was synonymous with impurity on intimate parts because it retained secretions.

Moreover, our relationship with hair is not always simply linked to a contemporary norm. We find very different historical relationships across cultures worldwide. Relationships that inevitably constitute different ways of perceiving things, even today. And this, even unconsciously.

For softer skin

Shaving would allow some women to remove not only peach fuzz but also dead skin cells. With this, many devotees claim to have found softer, brighter skin that absorbs creams and make-up better.

Some believe that hair may grow back thicker or denser. This is a common misconception, whether for body or facial hair, including beards in men. Hair grows back the same way. However, since it is shaved, the base of the hair remains, which is thicker than new growth. Imagine a plant that we could cut at the base of the stem. When it grows back, it would be as thick as it already is at its base. In comparison to a new plant, which would be much finer, more fragile.

Is shaving your face ultimately a good idea?

First of all, while the practice is painless, you risk discomfort during shaving. Dermaplaning is a way that could allow you to get smoother skin that accepts makeup better, even if you risk exposing yourself to skin rashes. Ultimately, it is an aggression for your skin. If you have sensitive or dry skin, we advise you to avoid this practice which will only worsen the situation.

Finally, if the face has this peach fuzz, which is actually almost invisible, it is primarily to protect your skin. Whether it's against external aggressions like the sun through UV rays, but also to protect you from skin reactions.

It's not really a necessity to shave your face, but if you truly find a way to feel better about yourself while maintaining exemplary hygiene, perhaps you can consider trying it?

If you wish, we advise you to inquire about beauty institutes that practice dermaplaning. While social media videos are all the rage with this concept, you will never be served as well as by beauty professionals. Not only do they have good tools, but they also have experience and knowledge! Which, alas, most people posting 10-second videos on social media do not have...

Conclusion

While it is far from a necessity due to the fact that peach fuzz is genuinely useful for your face, we are convinced that face shaving can help some women find themselves and appreciate themselves more. We are curious to hear testimonials from people who have already tried dermaplaning. Feel free to write to us in the comment section!
