Manicure tutorial: step-by-step gel polish application

Tuto manucure : la pose du vernis semi-permanent pas à pas

There are manicure techniques that require preparation, and semi-permanent polish is one of them. To avoid a disappointing result, make sure you follow the right steps!

______________

You've always applied your own nail polish to save money. But tired of seeing it chip on the first day, you've decided to take the plunge with semi-permanent polish!

Yes, that amazing polish that clings to your nail as well as pet hair to your favorite little black dress! Well, the difference is that semi-permanent polish is there to make you look stunning!

Just like with classic polish, you can totally do this long-lasting manicure at home. It's very easy, provided you follow the steps to the letter, of course.

Hold on, hold on, we see you coming… Of course, we're going to help you get familiar with this technique. We've even prepared a little video tutorial for you with the My Polish Beautélive range. Let's go! 😉

Semi-permanent nail polish application protocol

1. Nail preparation :

After cleaning and disinfecting your hands, push back your cuticles. Shape your nails with a file, then buff the surface with a white block. Dust and degrease using a cleaner.
Finally, apply a primer or bonder (less acidic) in a thin layer, avoiding the cuticles. This allows for better adhesion.

The essentials:

2. Base coat application :

Apply a thin layer of base coat, remembering to cap the free edge of the nail.
Cure for 120 sec. under a UV lamp (60 to 90 sec. under an LED lamp).

Do you have everything you need?

3. Color application :

Now for the color! Apply the shade of your choice in a thin and even layer, remembering the free edge, and avoiding the cuticles.
Cure. For a more intense result, repeat the operation a second time.

Our brand Beautélive offers a wide range of semi-permanent polishes: nude, glitter, matte, flashy colors…

4. Top coat application :

After that, apply a layer of top coat for an ultra-glossy effect and long-lasting wear.
Cure, then degrease your nails using a cleaner.

What you'll need:

- Nail cleaner 150mL

And there you have it, beautiful hands for at least 1 month! After 3 weeks, you'll notice that your nail has grown quite a bit, as there will be an empty space between the start of the polish and the base of the nail (as in the photo on the left). This is when you should remove it, so you can enjoy a new application!

Removal protocol

1. Nail polishing:

To start, remove the surface of the polish with a white block or a coarse-grit file.

2. Semi-permanent polish removal:

Use the foil wrap technique: cut cotton pads into four triangles, soak them in remover, place them on your nails, then wrap and seal them in aluminum foil.
Wait 15 to 20 minutes before removing everything with a cuticle pusher or hoof stick.

3. Finishing:

Finally, remove the remaining polish with a white block or a fine-grit file.

Warning: never remove semi-permanent polish by scraping. For more information, read our article "How to remove your semi-permanent polish at home?"

How long does semi-permanent polish last?

Semi-permanent polish typically lasts between 2 and 3 weeks on fingernails, although some formulas can last up to 15 to 18 days. On toenails, it can last up to 2 months.

Now that you know how to do a semi-permanent manicure like a pro, have fun and share it with all your loved ones! 😄
