A perm will blow your mind!

An iconic 80s hairstyle, the hair perm continues to attract many women in 2022. Gouiran Beauté explains everything you need to know about its characteristics, technique, and duration!

______________

If, like many French women, you're not lucky enough to fall into the category of CFC hair (curly-frizzy-coily), then you can count on alternative solutions. Forget the curling iron, here we're talking about a more lasting method: the hair perm !

What is a hair perm?

A perm is a long-term hair curling technique. Through a hair service, the aim is to wave naturally straight hair.

Far from magic, this technique is more of a treatment that allows you to get beautiful, soft, and airy curls. Curls that will last over time and resist washing. Generally, the effects of a perm can last from several months to 1 year, depending on hair type and growth speed.

With a perm, say goodbye to flat hair and hello to the volume of curly hair !

What do you mean, you doubt the effectiveness and result of the perm? Because of what, your fine hair or its length?

Don't worry, ladies, no matter your hair's specificities, the perm adapts! Your hairdresser will adjust the product doses depending on whether you have a short cut or long hair.
And for fine, more sensitive hair, a tip: take care of it several weeks beforehand with an appropriate conditioner.

Be careful though, if you have colored hair, we advise you to wait 2 weeks post-coloring before getting a perm. And vice versa: if you just got a perm, wait 15 days before dyeing your hair (this will allow the color to set properly). Moreover, avoid getting a bleach and a perm on the same day! 😉

Modern Perm, the so eighties hairstyle!

Whether in fashion or beauty, everything is an eternal virtuous circle. Hair trends come, go, then reappear from who knows what cupboard years later, in an improved version. It's the Modern Perm 's turn to be talked about! A retro haircut that we love!

The Modern Perm is simply a cut that favors long or medium-long hair worn down with tight, voluminous curls, and if possible, a fringe.

We can thank Selena Gomez and her music video Dance Again released in 2020 for bringing back the 80s perm!

Rest assured, with this hairstyle, you won't look like your mom at 20 or Jennifer Grey in Dirty Dancing !

While the perm was long shunned for being considered too aggressive for the scalp and hair, today it shines thanks to the Modern Perm.

It turns out that techniques have fortunately evolved. The products used contain less ammonia, and the rollers for setting are no longer metal but plastic or foam; hair is no longer burned!

The Modern Perm has an advantage that appeals to young women: it can easily be done at home. All this, after washing your hair and attaching small rollers overnight. No need for a hairdryer, natural drying is quite sufficient.

How to get a women's perm?

The Modern Perm is cool for a day, but you want a perm that lasts… permanently ! So it's time to make an appointment with a professional hairdresser.

But first, you need to determine the curl size that suits you to achieve the desired result: more wavy, or very curly? Know that with small rollers, you will have very tight and therefore very numerous curls for a very voluminous result. Conversely, with large rollers, your curls will be airier for a more natural result. The perm is therefore, in a way, custom-made !

How the hairdresser proceeds

Once you've made your decision, here's how the hairdresser will proceed to leave their salon 1h30 later with magnificent curls!

  1. You explain your perm project to the hairdresser so that they can advise you best (depending on whether your hair is colored or highlighted, they will suggest different perm strengths).
  2. Then, you go to the shampoo basin where they will wash and prepare your mane.
  3. Once that's done, they'll seat you in a chair to wrap your hair strands around rollers.
  4. The next step is to apply a curling treatment to the hair with a sponge to set its rounded shape.
  5. The top of the head is then covered with a shower cap or plastic film for 15 to 20 minutes.
  6. After this time, keeping the rollers in place, the hair is rinsed and towel-dried.
  7. Still using a sponge, the hairdresser will apply a second, neutralizing treatment this time. They will then let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes, covering the head once again.
  8. Finally, the rollers are removed to rinse the hair thoroughly.
  9. The hair is dried with a diffuser hairdryer and left slightly damp.

And there you have it, a uniform and charismatic cut, far from the poodle effect of yesteryear! However, to keep it as long as possible, maintenance will be essential.

Remember to dry your hair naturally or with a diffuser, as our Ultimate Pro Beautélive hairdryer allows.

Nourishing and hydrating treatments will also be very important to provide shine and strengthen your hair. Avoid getting a perm if your hair is already sensitized.
