How to remove female mustache hair?

Before rushing to one of the next methods mentioned and getting rid of your female mustache, first ask yourself this question:

How dense is the hair above my mouth?

👉 Temporary methods for fine hair and peach fuzz

Tweezers: Ideal for a few barely visible hairs, this technique offers precise and lasting hair removal. Since the peach fuzz is light and almost invisible, tweezers allow for meticulous work without further stimulating hair growth. This is perfect for women who only have a light fuzz on their upper lip.

Threading: This ancient technique is perfect for the face and particularly the lip area. The thread can catch several hairs at once, even the finest ones. Threading is also ideal for eyebrows, offering a perfectly defined line. Faster than tweezers, threading is an effective alternative that respects the sensitive skin of the face.

Bleaching: Technically, this is not a hair removal method but rather a way to camouflage hair. If your peach fuzz is very fine but dark, bleaching is a simple solution. It makes the hair almost invisible without plucking it. However, this method can irritate sensitive skin and requires a product adapted for the face.

Shaving: Simple and painless, the female facial razor is a quick solution for removing peach fuzz and upper lip hair. Contrary to popular belief, shaving does not make hair thicker, but it does grow back faster (in a few days). Mini-razors or specific trimmers for the female face are available on the market, offering immediate, pain-free results.

Cold wax strips: Convenient for home use, ready-to-use strips allow for quick mustache hair removal. They are effective on short hairs but can be aggressive for the sensitive skin of the face. Choose strips specifically designed for the face.

👉 For more significant hair growth

Hot wax: When peach fuzz starts to become noticeable, hot wax is recommended. This quick hair removal method offers results that last about 3 weeks. You can go to a salon or perform this hair removal at home with the right equipment. For the delicate upper lip area, opt for strip-free waxes, available in pots or beads.

Electric epilator: Specific models for the face are available, with heads adapted to sensitive areas such as the upper lip. This electric hair removal method is effective but can be painful, especially on the face. The advantage is that it eliminates short hairs and offers long-lasting results, similar to waxing.

Facial razor

Depilatory cream: A chemical solution that dissolves hair on the skin's surface. Be careful with this technique on the face: always check that the product is specifically formulated for this sensitive area and perform a preliminary skin test to avoid allergic reactions.

Permanent solutions to say goodbye to hair

👉 Laser hair removal

Laser hair removal is a very effective permanent method for removing facial hair, particularly on the upper lip. The laser emits intense light that targets the melanin (pigment) in the hair and destroys the hair follicle.

Effectiveness: After 6 to 8 sessions (spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart), you will notice a permanent reduction of 80 to 90% of hair. Results vary depending on hair and skin type.

For whom? : Laser is particularly effective on fair skin with dark hair, as the contrast makes targeting easier. However, new laser technologies now allow darker skin to be treated with caution.

Important points:

  • Laser hair removal requires several sessions for optimal results
  • The cost of a session for the upper lip varies between 50 and 150€
  • The treatment can be slightly uncomfortable but remains bearable
  • Avoid sun exposure before and after each session

👉 Pulsed light hair removal

Often confused with laser, pulsed light is a similar technique but uses a broader light spectrum. This hair removal method can be performed in salons or at home with devices specially designed for the face.

Effectiveness: Generally, 8 to 12 sessions are necessary for satisfactory results. Pulsed light is generally less effective than laser but remains an excellent alternative, especially for fine facial hair.

For whom? : Like laser, pulsed light works best on fair skin with dark hair. However, some devices are adapted for darker skin.

👉 Electrolysis

This electric hair removal technique is the only method recognized as truly permanent by the American FDA. It consists of inserting a fine needle into each hair follicle to destroy it with an electric current.

Effectiveness: Electrolysis offers permanent results after several sessions, as it treats each hair individually.

For whom? : This method is suitable for all skin and hair types, including white or blonde hairs that laser cannot treat.

If you have already used this method, feel free to share your experience in the comments, it could surely help others 😉 Do you want to do another area but don't know about the different waxes? Don't panic, our article « Waxing: why and how? » is here to help you!
